Command Analysis

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

2021 is a special year for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. For the first time in her career 29-year old player managed to reach the semi-final of a Grand Slam tournament and has a good chance to claim the title. We can remind that Anastasia played in the quarter-finals of major tournaments before 2021, but she never advanced any further until now.
Pavlyuchenkova had a terrible start of 2021 season. Only on May she had her first major success, reaching the semi-final of Madrid tournament. Back then, her path on that competition ended after a loss to Aryna Sabalenka (2:6, 3:6).
At Paris, Anastasia had another match against that Belarusian player in the third round and managed to take revenge on Aryna (6:4, 2:6, 6:0). After that success Anastasia had another two difficult matches - against Victoria Azarenka (5:7, 6:3, 6:2) and Elena Rybakina (6:7, 6:2. 9:7). In each of those matches Anastasia clinched a victory despite a loss in the first set.

Tamara Zidansek

Tamara Zidansek is only on the 85th place of the WTA rankings. She never was any higher than 56th spot throughout her career. Not many experts could've predicted Tamara to reach the semi-final of Roland Garros. But that happened and the Slovenian player shouldn't be underestimated.
In the first round Zidansek was close to defeat in a match against Bianca Andreescu, but in the decisive set Tamara played more carefully (6:7, 7:6, 9:7). After that she recorded a confident win over Madison Brengle (6:4, 6:1) and then she had another closely contested match, this time against Katerina Siniakova. Match against a Czech player started with a bagel, but somehow managed to turn the match around (0:6, 7:6, 6:2).
On last two matches Zidansek surprised everyone and beat Sorana Cirstea (7:6, 6:1) and Paula Badosa (7:5, 4:6, 8:6), which we had a prediction on.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova deserved a status of bookmakers' favourite in that match. Victories over Sabalenka, Azarenka and Rybakina proved that Russian player is in a perfect form, she plays aggressively, but she is not forcing many errors.
Tamara Zidansek was close to a defeat in some matches, but her opponents failed to make those chances count. We think that Slovenian player won't have many chances to defeat Pavlyuchenkova.
